Species Information

Summary:
{See also Red Ramaria Table.} Ramaria araiospora var. rubella has a small to medium fruitbody, with crimson to magenta branches when young and when mature. It differs from the type variety only in color, being slightly more bluish red, and the tips not becoming yellow, (Marr).
Chemical Reactions:
stem flesh inamyloid (Marr, on basis of stated similarity of characters to type variety), ferric sulphate in water negative on stem context, (Exeter(3))
Microscopic:
spores 8-14 x 3-5 microns, average 9.8 x 3.6 microns, finely warted with linear lobed warts, basidia not having numerous cyanophilous granules; clamp connections absent, (Exeter(1)), basidial clamp connections absent, (Exeter(3))
Spore Deposit:
yellowish
Notes:
Ramaria araiospora var. rubella is found at least in WA (Marr). There are collections of Ramaria araiospora var. rubella from WA and OR at the University of Washington. It has been reported also from BC by O. Ceska and S. Berch.
